“Hard
work spotlights the character of people: some turn up their sleeves,
some turn up their noses, and some don't turn up at all.” -Sam Ewing
I am a native Arizonan, born in Tucson in 1948, and grew up in the rural
mining communities of Hayden and Winkleman, Arizona at the southern tip
of Gila County. Aside from my loving and supportive parents, some of my
earliest memories have always included teachers and I can still name
virtually every teacher I ever had while attending the primary,
elementary, and high schools in Hayden-Winkleman. It was these
memories that led me to believe that teachers walked a special path and
that they indeed made a difference, especially in my life.
Now, after thirty plus years in education, 18 of them as a counselor, 12
as an eighth grade and high school teacher, a Bachelor of Arts in
Education from NAU, and a Masters of Education in Counseling from the
University of Arizona, I do not look back with a single regret. As a
counselor I consider it a professional and personal mandate to attend to
the educational, academic, career, personal and social needs of every
student and to encourage the development of every student and enhance
his or her high school experience.
My goals are to help students and teachers:
v
interpret the results of various
achievement tests,
v
counsel students who are referred
for tardiness and absences,
v
counsel students as to
appropriate behavioral standards,
v
review and analyze grade-point
averages in relationship to achievement and college
selection and admission,
v
interpret student records,
v
identifying and resolving student
issues, needs and problems,
v
help teachers resolve problems
with student behaviors and arranging parent conferences to address
grades, learning issues and behavioral problems |

I am
an Arizona native and grew up in Bisbee, Arizona. After high school,
I attended and graduated from Cochise Community College and then
Northern Arizona University. My areas of certification are business and
English. In addition, I also hold a counseling certificate from the
University of Phoenix. I began my teaching career at Ray High School in
Kearny, Arizona and then Casa Grande Union High School. I have found
teaching and counseling so rewarding that upon retirement, I returned
and continue to get motivated from interacting with our young adults. My
favorite quote is from Cesar Chavez - "You cannot uneducate the person
who has learned to read. You cannot humiliate the person who feels
pride. You cannot oppress the people who are not afraid anymore." |
